Welcome In…
DonnaCQuests is my new blog for cataloging my solo TTRPG sessions. Playing games and focusing my life around the act of play has made me a more creative and happier person. I have the best time being a novice village witch, experiencing pastoral life as Fawn the Otter, or flying through space as a post-war pilot named Batty with my ION Heart mech companion, Fitz.
The whimsy and the crunchy choices, the drama of rolling dice and drawing cards, and the really cool dice tree I keep on my gaming table, are all things I want to share with whomever will read. So, here we are!
Solo TTRPGs are the final frontier of games as writing exercises, something I chatter on about constantly. They’re excellent for writers like me who appreciate the character study in their first five drafts before they can figure out what on earth is even the plot to their book? More importantly, playing these games has been a revelation for my emotional spirit.
I hope you’ll get something out of these cataloged adventures, and maybe pick up some of these games yourself.
Here’s a sample of my Tinyoji adventure log as Fawn the Otter to capture the vibe.
Fawn the Otter was walking on the ornate Silver Spoon Bridge when, behind her, she heard a quarrel cresting over the bend of the bridge. Two badgers, Basil and Fern, were in a heated argument Fawn could barely make out, and so she decided to hide and listen in on their discussion. From behind cover, Fawn could hear that Basil and Fern were worried no one would be able to help carry the ceremonial logs for the upcoming village summer festival. There was a chance that tradition would have to be skipped this year, and that was something Basil could not stand.
A prickle of duty rushed through Fawn. Since she’s a brave otter who is always willing to volunteer her help, she jumped out of hiding and offered to carry the logs to help preserve this sacred village tradition. Basil was thrilled but Fern was upset to be spied on, and the way she looked at Fawn made them both wonder if their friendship had taken a hit. The two badgers ultimately thanked Fawn for her offer, and everyone left Silver Spoon Bridge with conflicting emotions.
For Fawn, as she scuttled back to her cottage, this was lesson learned about using camouflage and trying to be kind when not directly asked.
